First, a confession: I’m a bit of a trekkie. (Not as much as my roommate, mind you; he’s been to conventions.) I was, then, very excited this morning when I logged onto MSN to see a link to the new teaser trailer for the next Star Trek movie.
This newest look at the Star Trek legacy, directed by J.J. Abrams, is set to hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2008. According to imdb.com, the film will be “a chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.”
James T. Kirk will be played by Chris Pine (from the 2006 gun-toting Smokin’ Aces), and the ever-logical and level-headed Spock will be portrayed by Heroes villain Zachary Quinto. IMDB lists Leonard Nimoy as playing Spock as well; this could be for the sake of telling the film’s prequel story in flashback, though nothing has been confirmed. Other cast members include Zoe Saldana, Eric Bana, and Winona Ryder.
Contrary to the explosion of speculation on the topic, Abrams has not confirmed details on the film’s plot.
